Last week, I introduced my Teen Leadership class to the story of Inky Johnson. His perspective on life’s circumstances is something we can all learn from.
He was projected to make millions as an NFL first-round draft pick in 2006. He planned to use his success in football to make a better life for his family. His family was his “Why,” and football was his “How”. That same year, he sustained a career-ending injury and completely lost the use of his right arm. He never played football again.
Although adversity hit him hard, he never lost his “Why”; his “How” just had to change. Now he is an extremely successful motivational speaker, using his story to help others, while fulfilling his “Why” at the same time.
Inky Johnson’s perspective and resiliency, what he is made of, allowed him to be successful, despite the adversity in his life.
We can be eggs or potatoes in boiling water...what are you made of?
