Happy #MotivationalMonday (9/3/18) #Grit
This past week I got a message from one of my former high school baseball players. He informed me that he was on his way to see me one morning his junior year (2006) to quit because he wasn’t playing and didn’t see things turning around for him. I had NO idea that was his thought process when I saw him that morning in 2006. When he stopped by my class that morning, I was just checking up on him and asked him how he was feeling and then told him to be ready tonight, because he was starting. Apparently, this caught him off guard, because when I spoke with him just the the other day, he told me that in that moment, he couldn’t believe what I was telling him and he said that moment made him keep his thoughts of quitting silent. That night after he came to me planning to quit, he instead went on to get a big hit in the last inning to help us win the game. He went on to start many more games his junior year, and all of the games his senior year. After graduating, he went on to play college baseball!
What if he would have quit that one morning because things were not going his way? I bet regret would definitely be consuming him by now. Sometimes, we don’t always get what we want, when we want it. But, if we #GritThroughIt, we have a much better chance to build character and lifetime memories, and perhaps even find what we were waiting to attain.
