Pay it forward! This is something I have been talking to my students a lot about while teaching them about the Civil Rights Movement. But what does that really mean? To really “pay it forward,” we first must understand and appreciate the contributions of those before us. The sacrifices they made to give you and I the opportunities to do what we love and are passionate about are so important. Second, we must have a burning desire and the courage to pass along their gifts to others. A person’s gift can come in a variety of ways. Take Jackie Robinson for example; he played baseball, however, to me and millions of others it was not just his skill or talent in baseball that had an impact. It was also his courage and character in the face of adversity that has made the greatest impact on so many people, no matter their race.
This picture is the definition of “impact,” in my opinion. These two gentlemen lived an important life because they accepted the challenge to impact others in a positive way. I am so thankful for the impact they have had on my life. What people have impacted your life and how are YOU paying it forward for others down the road?!
