Legacy – a consistent pattern of building into the lives of others. This word has a two-fold meaning to me personally. February 15th marked four years since my father passed away from a heart attack and there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of him or the legacy that he left me. The legacy he left includes work ethic, pride, confidence, and passion, just to name a few. I am so grateful for the 33 years I had on this earth with him and the valuable lessons I learned under his leadership.
I always imagined having sons (blessed with four of them) and leaving my legacy to them. I am definitely not perfect, but I have learned a lot from my failures. I want my sons to become successful contributing members of society one day. I never imagined that one of my own sons would leave me their legacy. To be honest, if it was not for Aaron, I would not be writing these blogs each week. When I actually met him physically for the first time, he was already deceased. Shortly after his funeral, his legacy started to grow in me. It has inspired me to help others and look at life through a different perspective, one that is full of compassion.
I am so proud of the footprints you see in this photo. Aaron is not only leaving a legacy with me, but countless others who know about our foundation. So, as the great Tony Dungy says, live out your purpose and build a legacy into the lives of others. That is what I received and that is what I am trying to do…are you?!
