I know this is a lot easier said, than applied! If I would have seen this message after my dad passed away from a heart attack in February of 2014 (my mother – November of 2007, and son – December of 2013 had already passed tragically), I would have thought, “That person does not truly know what it is like to suffer and be depressed. They don’t have it half as bad as I do!” I was broken and searching for “why” this all happened to my family and I. I was consistently sulking in my own self-pity and not sure about my future path. Success and honoring my fallen family members did not seem at all possible.
It was not until I renewed my Faith and rebuilt my mindset that I was able to move on toward a path of recovery. While doing research on mindsets, I came across a quote from Inky Johnson; “Things don’t happen to you, they happen for you!” If you get a chance, look up his story…Wow, what a testimony!
When you are in a fixed (possibly depressed) mindset, the only perspective you see is a negative one that does not see a brighter future and sees little chance of success. Today, I am the Executive Director of a promising non-profit organization, which strives to help people understand the power of G.R.I.T. You see, if it was not for those setbacks in my life I would have never had the courage to start up my foundation. Do not get me wrong, I wish my mother, son, and father were still with us; but, that was out of my control. What I CAN control is my path moving forward. In a unique way, I understand why these things have happened and how I can use it to help others, so that is what I am doing! What things in your past have happened FOR YOU?! Try looking from a new perspective today!
